My Journey as an Artist

"Art is not what you see but what you make others see."  - Edgar Degas

As a college student pursuing a bachelor's degree in product and industrial design my journey as an artist has been a constant battle between doubt and confidence. When I first started out, I was filled with excitement and eagerness to create, but as time went on, the challenges of pursuing a creative career started to weigh me down.

I remembered struggling to come up with fresh ideas for my design pro
jects, feeling overwhelmed by the expectations of my professors, and question whether I had what it took to succeed as an artist. Doubt crept into my mind and it seemed like it was impossible to shake off.

But over time, I learned to embrace the challenges and push through the doubt. Here are some of the key lessons I learnt on my journey from doubt to confidence as an artist:

1. Embrace Failure: Failure is a part of the creative process. Instead of seeing it as a setback, embrace it as an opportunity to learn and grow. By analyzing what went wrong and what could have been done differently, you can improve your skills and gain more confidence in your abilities.

2. Surround Yourself with Positive Energy: The people you surround yourself with can have a huge impact on your mindset. Seek out like-minded individuals who share your passion for art and supportive of your goals. Connects with other artists and attend events or exhibitions to gain inspiration and motivation.

3. Find Your Voice: As an artist, it's essential to find your own unique style and voice. Don't try to copy someone else's work or be someone you're not. Instead, experiment with different techniques and mediums until you find what resonates with you. Once you find your style, own it and let it shine through in your work.

4. Practice, Practice, Practice: The more you practice, the more confident you will become in your skills. Set aside time each day to work on your craft, whether it's sketching, painting or designing as you continue to create, you will gain a deeper understanding of your art form and become more confident in your abilities.

5. Believe in Yourself: Finally the most important lesson I learnt on my journey from doubt to confidence it's to believe in myself. It's easy to get bogged down by negative self talk and doubt, but it's crucial to remember that you are capable of achieving year goals. Believe in yourself, your vision, and your abilities, and you will be able to overcome any obstacle that comes your way.

As an artist, doubt and confidence will always be a part of your journey. But by embracing failure surrounding yourself with positivity finding your voice practicing and believing yourself, you can overcome doubt and become a confident, successful artist.
